Can I modify my train ticket order after purchase?

Japan Experience allows for one free modification request of the time of departure (changes to destination, route or date of departure are NOT possible*). Modification is only possible for us under the following conditions:

  • If you have not yet exchanged your QR code for the physical tickets at the machine in Japan stations, Japan Experience can modify your QR code up to 3 working days before the departure date, and send you a new QR code for new tickets, free of charge.
  • Once you have scanned the QR code and receive the physical ticket(s), you can modify the tickets at a JR Ticket Office at the station up to 10 minutes before the departure time printed on the ticket.
  • After the departure time, if you have missed your train, you can still board a later departing train on the same day, same route, with the same train ticket but you must sit in a non-reserved seat.
  • If you want to modify your ticket a second time, it is not possible so you will need to cancel your QR code or tickets, as outlined above. If you wish to change your travel date, you can do it directly at a JR Ticket Office, and you will be asked to pay any extra fees in yen.
  • *If you want to change the destination, route, or date you will need to cancel your order under the above conditions and make a new booking. Alternatively you can also exchange your QR code for the physical tickets and then modify the route/date with staff at a JR Ticket Office. You will be asked to pay any extra applicable fees in yen.
