The original green Suica card has a 10-year validity period, while the Welcome Suica is only valid for 28 days from the date of first use, and must be used by the card expiration date. Aside from this, you can travel on the same trains and use it at convenience stores or vending machines just like the regular Suica.
While the regular Suica allows for a refund of the remaining balance on the card at the end of travel in Japan, the Welcome Suica does not allow any refund. If you don’t use up the balance on your Welcome Suica card by the end of your trip, you cannot get it back.
