In the case that there are no English words to help you orientate yourself or even to order from a menu when the restaurant doesn't have an English version, We would recommend downloading an app that lets you take a picture of the content and have it translate to your own language, there are several applications that can do this for you - among the free versions you can use Google Lens, which is extremely useful for reading restaurant menus, content in grocery stores, directions, and signs displayed only in Japanese.

Many Japanese people will usually try to assist you even when they do not speak English, and many use translating devices and apps to communicate with foreigners, but Google Lens really does make a difference for written communications!
