Ryokan are traditional Japanese inns that offer a unique and immersive experience, deeply rooted in Japanese culture and hospitality. These accommodations emphasise traditional design, featuring tatami-matted rooms, sliding doors and futon bedding laid out on the floor.
You will also be provided with a yukata (casual kimono) when you check in, to wear around the ryokan during your stay.
The meals served at ryokan are often a highlight, showcasing exquisite Japanese cuisine, including kaiseki, a multi-course feast for the eyes as well as taste buds, consisting of many seasonal and meticulously prepared dishes.
Ryokan usually feature communal baths, known as onsen or sento, offering guests the opportunity to experience traditional Japanese bathing culture. Many ryokan are situated in scenic areas, providing a serene environment for relaxation and often offering beautiful views of nature or historic surroundings.
Two organisations can help you select the perfect ryokan based on your budget and itinerary, but if you are purchasing a tour with us our sales team will be happy to assist you.
